FL studio my personal favorite is a digital audio workstation developed by a Belgian company. it can be used on mac and windows it has no limitations that i can name besides the fact that it is fairly difficult to use, it can be used effectively for editing music. It is capable of surround sound, it can support differently enabled drivers, and it processes instructions and completes them very quickly.
Song smith is a musical accompaniment application for Microsoft Windows. Songsmith immediately generates a musical accompaniment after a voice is recorded. The user can adjust tempo, genre (such as pop, R&B, hip-hop, rock, jazz, or reggae), and overall mood (e.g. to make it happy, sad, jazzy, etc.). This makes it very user friendly and easy to use. It is however not used to edit already existing music peices, it is only suitabe for windows. I do not like this product because the advertising campaign they had for it was very shoddy and made me feel like the actors where not 'right'.

Orion music production software
Orion Platinum is a high-end music production suite, featuring a pattern-based sequencer and playlist, a wide selection of software synthesizers and drum machines, many high quality effects such as reverb and delay, and a full-fledged mixer with two effect inserts per channel and four sends, EQ sections, optional soft saturation and real-time vu-meters. The Mixer is complemented by a Master Section and four subgroups, making it easy to create complex routing and mastering. Third-party VST/DX instruments and effects are seamlessly integrated with the production environment, and ReWire applications can be hosted. Orion’s file size is a 100mb to download but it has limitations because it can only work on Windows Vista, Windows2000, Win98, WinME, and WinXP. I don’t think the software has any merits because it a legal software that you have to pay for when downloading. It is suitable for a pc but I don’t think it would be suitable for a Mac due to the capability it requires to function.

This music production software is one of the few popular ones that are used by the developing youths today and is described as “the fastest way from your brain to the speakers”.This is basically because it has a wide range of features that include:

Garage Band is a software which can be made for mac but can also be used on windows. We can change the tempo, the mood. We can learn how to use it from the tutorials. ts size is around 331.2 MB. A lack of MIDI-out capability limits the use of external MIDI instruments. There is also only limited support for messages sent from knobs on MIDI keyboards, only real-time pitch bend, modulation, sustain, and foot control are recognized. However, since version '08, other parameters affected by MIDI knobs can be automated later per track. GarageBand has no functions for creating multiple time signatures, though the software does now allow a tempo track to automate tempo changes. The ability to reverse tracks is also not available.

There are no free lifetime upgrades and i dont think it is possible to start the whole song. We can editdrum beats with an inbuilt drum and guitar. It can be used in both Mac and Windows.

Wavepad audio editing software, is one of the more common music software out there as well as fl studio. Wavepad has a variety of options such as 1.) Editing mp3 files for your iPod, PSP or other portable device.
2.) As a music editor or producer (it includes ringtones creator formats).
3.) Music editing and recording to produce mp3 files.
4.) Voice editing for multimedia productions (used with our Video Editor).
5.) Restoration of audio files including removing excess noise such as hiss and hums.

This software is available for Mac, Windows and Linux which is why it is common apart from the fact that it is quite easy. I do not know of its limitations.

There is a differance between Mac and PC in a lot of areas.
Mac has better ram and is fater thn most PC's. Mac does not get viruses. While windown is always fighting worms and viruses. There fore you dont need anti-viruses on Macs - money saver.
Mac is apparently hard to use, but it really is not much different from Windows...just the shortcuts and display.
However, PC's can pick up better, stronger and more WLAN connections. But, one can make his own network using Mac which enables 6 people to use the net on 6 differant laptops, using 1 internet moderm.
I personally feel that Mac is way better than PC becasue it dosen't slow down and it's awesome.
i think virtual dj is easy to use if you are used to it but if you are new to it, the excitment of making your on song boosts your mind, songsmith is a good software to create songs but i do not know how to use it yet so i do not think i can use it for this unit, i will use virtual dj because i have had experince of things like this and i know how to use it.

Personally i love garage band and i think its awesome. At 35.9mb, you can make your own songs, learn how to play an instrument and become a producer. IT has many great effects such as the voice transitor where you can make your voice sound like a cartoon or a chimpmunk (quite hilarious actually).... like i said AMAZING or what?? This software, i feel can be for mac and windows alike. but from what i've seen, it seems like Mac's are the only ones capable of using it but i have yet to test that out, when i download it.
Next would be, i have to say is Virtual DJ, everyone knows what it is but how many people know how to use it well... if your one of thoose people can you make your own remix of songs or a song using it..if you can...then "yay you!!" This software is smaller than garage band (at about 28-29 MB) but it is amazing!! It is for both mac and windows alike.
SongSmiths is another music software, but is bigger than both Virtual DJ and Garage band combined, it is around 98 MB and can take quite some time to download. IT can only be used by windows and it cannot edit other songs, which is a letdown.

It works on both MAC and PC. 500MB HDDS is needed for an installation and that is a reasonable amount as opposed to 8GB of sony's ACID Pro 7. The limitation might be the price as the FULL package costs about $300 and the SIMPLE edition (which will limit the user to ALOT of features) costs about $50. The other plugins cost anywhere from $30 to $503!! So this is a good software but it comes at a price:::A huge one! However, someone who doesnt want to spend money, can always get it off torrents but I wouldnt recommend piracy.
Audacity:
It is a software for Macs and Windows.The file size is 32 bits per trial. limitations: A plug-in is required for VST plug-ins in Audacity 1.2.x.Audacity lacks dynamic equalizer controls, real time effects and support for scrubbing.MIDI files can only be loaded visually.

Limitations:
What most people would tend to download is the demo. Unlike the full version, in the demo one does not have access to all the features. This may be at a disadvantage to the users, because depending on their level of skill, for example professional DJs, if they were to download the demo just to see how it works, then they would want to know all the utilities of the software and this may discourage them to us the actual software.
Merits:
When one upgrades to Virtual DJ Pro, the benefits are endless.
• You always get the latest version before anyone.
• There are extra skins and plug-ins.
• Once you get the full version, although you paid for it once already you get download all the later versions for free.
Virtual DJ is suitable for both MAC and PC.
You can add beats that enhances the music, you can add effects such as the flanger and the backspin etc.

Garage Band
Garage Band is an amazing music production software that was originally created for the Mac system but is now available for the Windows system. This software gives people the opportunity to learn an instrument and then play it. It has Flex Time and Groove Matching to synchronize different tunes. It has lots of effects. It also allows one to MIDI edit their music. It has a file size of about 331 MB. Garage Band is said to be limited to pitches and intervals and doesn’t support different tunings unlike Logic Pro.
Fruity Loops
Fruity Loops is a well known music production software to dance and techno artists. It is a very powerful software that assists in arranging tracks with the whatever instruments you have. This software is good when producing electronic music although it isn’t for hip hop producers as the variety of beats supplied are mediocre. It has an Advanced Mixer with 68 mixer tracks. Fruity Loops allows one to edit their music. This software can run on both Intel Mac and Windows. Its file size is 200 MB.
